Membership Membership of Derg Motor Yacht Club is open to paid up members of the IWAI. The club is NOT a branch of the IWAI, but membership is limited to paid up members of the IWAI and the club fully supports the aims and goals of the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland. Currently there is no membership fee. Why does it exist? The club is aimed at bringing together like minded motor yachtsmen who are interested in furthering their skills, extending their cruising abilities, and building their experience both inland and especially navigating the tidal waters of the Shannon Estuary and the SW coast of Ireland. Prospective members are welcome and should be proposed and seconded by existing members of the club and should meet some basic prerequisites for joining (see below). New members who do not meet some of the prerequisites may be granted 1 year to attain the necessary certificates of competency and may be assisted by the club in this respect. The club aims to organise training courses, information talks and cruise events aimed at building cruising experience, navigation and boat handling skills. The clubs key aim is to promote cruising activities on Lough Derg and to assist members attain the skills and build confidence necessary to enjoy cruising the tidal waters connected to Lough Derg, and to promote cruising trips from Lough Derg to the Shannon Estuary and south west coast of Ireland.
